Johannesburg - Protea's captain Graeme Smith should be back to full fitness within the space of the next four weeks.

This was the finding of Cricket South Africa's (CSA) team of medical specialists after they had reviewed X-rays and scans of his injury and conducted further examinations on Thursday afternoon.

This will allow sufficient time for him to take a full part in the Proteas' preparation for the ICC World Twenty20.

The tournament starts in the West Indies on April 30.

"Graeme will have a further X-ray on Tuesday to make sure his recovery is on track," commented Proteas' team manager Dr. Mohammed Moosajee.

Smith suffered the injury in taking a brilliant boundary catch for the Rajasthan Royals during an Indian Premier League match against the Delhi Daredevils earlier this week.

LOL,are u guys south african??im a englishman but even i like greame smith more than you. i hope his recovery is speedy because he is an exciting batsman to watch.he might not be the most elegant but he gets his runs. A word of advice to you south africans: support your players otherwise they might all just be heading here to come play for my country

Disgusting. The only way to describe some of the stupid and nasty comments by people who has no regard for greatness. A bunch if clowns knowing nothing about the great game of cricket. Typically South African. They have no appreciation for top performances by of our leading sportsmen. Graeme is and will be one of the greatest cricketing players this country has ever had. Who in his right mind will ever forget his great innings' in England, India and Australia? Captain courageous. His courage and fighting spirit is unparallelled. We love you Graeme and wish you a speedy recovery and lots of runs and victories.

Smith is the “least liked Protea player” as per Sport24 poll but he is always in the headlines. It will not surprise me if future headlines inform us every time Smith breaks a wind. How about some articles on interesting players ! Smith is a bore!

Fit or not, the selectors will still have Smithy in the squad....it's a damn disgrace man....I suggest we go with Kallis as captain....with his current form, I think we will have a good chance under his captaincy..

@ KFC clown - shut up, you dont know what you talking about! @Michael Ward - agree with your comments. Let's give the boys a chance - no wonder sports teams in SA battle - with comments from 'fans' just breaking them down, instead of supporting them! And YES I am being realistic, before all you 'macho men' blast this comment. Give sportsmen/women a chance, they are all human like us, but 200% fitter!

@ Zaq. Your ignorance astounds me. Have you seen highlights of the catch that Smith completed that subsequently injured his finger? Granted he may have a problem that keeps on causing these hand injuries but for you to suggest that he gets "injured" to save face is ludicrous at best. Get a brain for sports and then come back and make valid comments.

retired cricketer - just as well you're retired as you obviously know nothing about the game. check smith's stats - he is one of the best in the game - hope his recovery goes well.

Please will you guys stop this nonsense with Smith. His wheels came off long ago. He is a total embarrassment to South africa and should like the other greatrs we have had, bow out like a man and not be forced out with his lousy performances over the last 2 months. There is a glut of bright talent in the wings and they should be used NOW before they too get to old and loose interest in the game.

Kfc Clown your comments are so childish its sickening you obviously dont watch to much otherwise you would see how mean and lean all the guys look.Good news that Graeme will be ready he is our anchor and great captain

This is now the right time for poor mommys boy to retire with "some" honour. We do not need him. When he sees that he is on the losing side, he makes sure he is 'injured', so that no-one can blame him for the teams poor performance!
KFC Clown3/18/2010 10:04 PM
This couls not be a bad thing that Smith's finger is injured as maybe this time he won't be able to eat so much KFC and the boys won't arrive in the Caribbean as tubby as the last world cup here. I will be in Barbados for the super 8's so please make it this time boys!!!!!
