Cape Town - Dale Steyn's heroics in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle have seen him move to 16th in the all-time Test wicket-taker list.

Steyn took 9-99 in the Proteas' 153-run victory in the first of their two Tests against their subcontinent foes, to take his Test wicket tally to 371.

Steyn now sits 19 wickets shy of former Proteas speedster Makhaya Ntini (390 in 12th spot) and leading SA wicket-taker Shaun Pollock (421 in eighth spot).

Steyn however boasts a far striker rate (41.7 in 73 Tests) compared to his compatriots Ntini (53.4 in 101) and Pollock's 57.8 in 108.

Should he continue at his current rate, Steyn will surpass Ntini later this year during the West Indies' tour to South Africa.

Muttiah Muralitharan currently tops the all-time Test wicket taker list with 800 dismissals in 133 Tests.
