Proteas improve T20 ranking

Johannesburg - South Africa has leapfrogged England into fifth position on the ICC T20 International Rankings table, after securing a 2-1 series victory over Sri Lanka in Hambantota on Tuesday.

SA won the first two games of the series, before slumping to a six wicket defeat in the third and final game.

Nevertheless, the Proteas are now just two ranking points behind last year's ICC World Twenty20 champions, West Indies, after picking up six rankings points following the Sri Lanka series.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, retain their position as the number-one ranked side, despite dropping six ranking points.

As a result, their lead over second-ranked Pakistan has been trimmed to just four ranking points.

SA are also ranked fifth on the ICC One Day International (ODI) rankings table, but are still ranked number one on the Test Rankings table.

T20 Rankings (as of August 7, following the conclusion of Sri Lanka/South Africa T20 series):

1. Sri Lanka

2. Pakistan

3. India

4. West Indies

5. South Africa

6. England

7. Australia

8. New Zealand

9. Ireland

10. Bangladesh.
