SA women secure 2014 spot

Johannesburg - South Africa secured automatic qualification to the ICC World T20 in 2014 after the team clinched a nail-biting five-wicket victory over Pakistan on Wednesday in the women's World T20 tournament in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Trisha Chetty, who made 22 runs, and Alison Hodgkinson, who added 25, shared a 47-run stand for the second wicket as the SA women reached their 88-run target with one ball to spare.

Pakistan had earlier been restricted to 87/8 after they won the toss and chose to bat.

Seamer Shabnim Ismail returned 3/19 to lead the SA women's attack, with only top-order batsman Bismah Maroof putting up a fight, contributing 32 runs to Pakistan's cause.
