Dhaka - The rain was once again the villain in a South Africa Twenty20 match, this time playing an instrumental role in the SA women's seven-wicket defeat to Bangladesh on Tuesday.
The rain-interrupted match saw match officials having to rely on the Duckworth/Lewis method to determine the final result.
Bangladesh won their third toss in a row and chose to field. South Africa's Shandré Fritz and Trisha Chetty shared an opening partnership of 14 runs before the latter was stumped off Salma Khatun for 12. Susan Benade took charge of the second-wicket partnership, adding 37 from 30 balls before clever bowling from Khadija Tul Kubra saw her stumped at the end of the 12th over.
Fritz followed an over later, dismissed for 10 off 35 balls by Rumana Ahmed.
There were no other standout performances thereafter, the best being captain Mignon du Preez's 18 off 15 and Marizanne Kapp's 11 off five. South Africa posted 105/6 in their allotted overs.
Bangladesh had 4.4 overs of batting, scoring 12/1 before the rain began to pelt down. The revised target became 73 from 13 overs. Rumana Ahmed and Farzana Haque shared a 31-run second-wicket partnership before Ahmed was run out by Kapp for 14 in the eighth over and was followed a ball later by Haque, who was run out by Suné Luus for 15.
Salma Khatun and Shukhtara Rahman held their nerve and produced a fourth-wicket partnership of 42 runs at 9.69 runs per over to give their side the winning runs.
The two sides will meet for the series decider on Saturday before travelling to Sri Lanka for the ICC Women's World T20.
