Dubai - The International Cricket Council is proposing moving this year's Champions Trophy to South Africa.
The ICC chief executives committee says a final decision will be made next week.
The group - in a teleconference on Wednesday - looked at five sites for the eight-team competition scheduled for September 24 to October 5 in Sri Lanka.
Rain is likely in Sri Lanka during that time and some cricket officials had proposed alternative venues in Australia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
The ICC shifted the Champions Trophy last year from Pakistan over security concerns.
