SA to host Champions League

2012-06-26 09:46

Kuala Lumpur - South Africa was chosen as the host of this year's Champions League T20 tournament by cricket chiefs meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

"South Africa will host CLT20 this year. All other details to follow soon," tweeted Sundar Raman, a member of the tournament's technical committee.

The fourth edition of the club Twenty20 tournament will be held in October in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Centurion and Durban, the ESPNCricinfo site reported.

Last month India invited Pakistan's domestic champions Sialkot Stallions to join the Champions League, in what was considered a breakthrough towards the resumption of sporting ties between the two countries.

It will be the second time South Africa has hosted the event, which has also been held twice in India. The tournament is a joint initiative between India, South Africa and Australia.

The announcement was made on the sidelines of the International Cricket Council's annual conference, which is taking place this week in the Malaysian capital.

Why not take it somewhere like Ireland to promote the game there??this is getting pathetic.

Because there's no irish team in the tournament, its like hosting African Cup of Nations in Lesotho without Lesotho playing there.

pathetic? im glad i wil be able to see some top quality international players out there. Don't think thats pathetic. And besides do you know what the entire process is regarding winning the rights to host a tournament? The irish will have to fork out a substantial amount in order to host it and Im not sure they are equipped to do so, plus do you know which grounds wil be able to host matches? Unfortunately, you are leaving the responsiblity of spreading the game to the CLT20 guys instead of the ICC. It is a cash cow no doubt, and if you were a businessman, which option would you choose?

I don't think Tumisang has a positive bone in his body, he always finds something wrong in everything. You need help friend and the only way you can get it is if you work on your confidence. Work on yourself and build yourself esteem. you clearly do not trust yourself enough.

i think he might be ignorant. if this were any other sport it wouldnt be pathetic. BTW the fact that sa hosted the cricket world cup and it was successful showed capability in host an event which directly helped sa host the soccer world cup. so next time think about how pathetic it is

  • Citizen - 2012-06-26 10:40

Good thing we are the hosts then as our team might not have qualified to play in their own tournament ha ha

  • MarkSchrade1980 - 2012-06-26 10:41

Oh yawn. This T20 stuff is boring as hell

      malcolm.molver - 2012-06-26 11:08

Agreed. This is overkill. And the ICC has approved a six-match Twenty20 series between Pakistan and Australia. WTF?

      gunner.zn.5 - 2012-06-26 12:09

      @ mark...YAWN!

I think it is good news as it will give cricket enthusiasts something to look forward to and at the same time bring more visitors to the country. Why are some people always negative when it should be something positive???????

      gunner.zn.5 - 2012-06-26 12:11

      Well said
