Durban - South Africa A had little difficulty in securing a draw in their second four-day ‘Test’ against Sri Lanka A at Kingsmead on Monday and thus victory in the two-match series.

The South Africans won the first match of the series by an innings last week.

The star of the show this past weekend was, however, the visiting captain, Dimuth Karunaratne. He followed his 83 in the first innings with an unbeaten 150 (240 balls, 17 fours and a six) second time around. It was the eighth century of his first-class career and enabled Sri Lanka to declare at 302/5 and set South Africa an unlikely target of 349 for victory in 71 overs.

They quickly dismissed both South African openers but Stiaan van Zyl (39 off 140 balls) and captain Faf du Plessis (55 off 120 balls) shared an unbroken third wicket partnership of 93 in 38 overs.

The hosts were 130 for the loss of two wickets after 56 overs before play was called off with 15 overs remaining.

Thami Tsolekile took one catch in Sri Lanka’s second innings to take his total for the match to nine.
