Q and A: Herschelle Gibbs

Cape Town - Proteas star Herschelle Gibbs is currently involved in the IPL with the Deccan Chargers.

Having scored 237 runs in eight matches to date with a highest score of 50 and an average of 29.62, Gibbs will be looking for a fast finish to this year's tournament.

Sport24 caught up with the serial prankster in India... and posed the following 10 questions:

1. What does your daily eating plan look like during the IPL?
I eat plenty of protein. I have some cornflakes, eggs and toast in the mornings, for lunch I have chicken, and my dinners vary from chicken, pasta, pizza and the odd chicken burger.

2. Who is the biggest prankster in the Deccan Chargers team?
Steve Smith, the trainer. Not only is he the shortest in the team but also the most picked on, so he gets even by being the prankster in the team.

3. If you had a choice of opening the batting with anyone in the world, who would it be?
Viv Richards because he is the best batsman ever and he is the king when it comes to hitting bowlers to all corners of the globe.

4. What is the best bit of sledging you have ever experienced?
I can’t really remember; there have been too many.

5. Is there a particular bowler you love to face?
I don’t have one in particular that I enjoy facing above the rest, also, I feel it may be disrespectful to mention anyone by name.

6. What does a day in the life of an IPL star look like?
When we are not traveling, our day basically consists of a gym session in the morning, and a practice session in the afternoon.  There are functions in the evenings every second night or so as well.

7. Do the team owners get too involved in the team on a daily basis?
Our team owner has become a lot more relaxed over the last two years, the first year he was too involved but not anymore.

8. What is your favourite perk of being involved in the IPL?
Mixing with the Bollywood actresses.

9. What is your favourite sport outside of cricket?
Underwater Ice hockey.

10. What do next five years for Herschelle Gibbs look like?
I want to play Twenty20 cricket until I am at least 40 years old and I am also in the process of exploring other business interests.
