Rossouw ton propels Proteas to 327/8

Rilee Rossouw (Gallo).

Cape Town - A masterful century from Rilee Rossouw helped the Proteas set Australia 328 for victory in the fifth and final ODI of the series against Australia in Cape Town on Wednesday.

Rossouw entered the fray with the Proteas in trouble at 37/2, but his 178-run fourth wicket partnership with JP Duminy (73) put South Africa in a fantastic position to claim a series whitewash.

The Proteas went into the match with four changes from the side that won so easily in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.

David Miller, Dale Steyn, Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir returned while Farhaan Behardien, Dwaine Pretorius, Aaron Phangiso and Tabraiz Shamsi dropped out.

Hashim Amla looked in delightful form at the top of the order as he and Quinton de Kock cruised to 37/0 before De Kock was caught in the covers for 12.

That Scott Boland wicket meant that De Kock finished the series with exactly 300 runs to his name at an average of 60.

Amla was next to fall, in the next over, to a beautiful piece of bowling from Joe Mennie.

The Australian seamer had started from wide of the wicket and the ball just held its line as Amla looked to work the ball on the on side and was bowled.

When captain Faf du Plessis was out bowled for 11, becoming Mennie's second of the day, the Proteas were in trouble at 52/3.

But then the Rossouw and Duminy show got started.

Rossouw, who has been in good touch throughout the series, was sublime once more.

Duminy was dismissed in 39th over, caught at backward point for Mennie's third, but by then the Proteas were sitting pretty at 230/4.

Rossouw went to his third ODI century in the next over, taking exactly 100 balls with 11x4s and 2x6s.

It was a knock that reminded selectors that he is in serious form, giving them a tough decision to make ahead of the first Test against Australia at the WACA on November 3.

Rossouw was eventually out for 122 from 118 in the 45th over as he looked to hit one out the park.

David Miller's entertaining 39 from 29 then saw the Proteas cruise to 327/8 from their 50 overs.

Scores in brief:

SA 327/8 (Rossouw 122, Duminy 73, Miller 39, Mennie 3/49)
