Cape Town - India were 60/1 at lunch on Day 1 of the fourth Test against South Africa in Delhi on Thursday.
Murali Vijay (12) was the only batsmen dismissed, caught in the slips by Hashim Amla off the bowling of off-spinner Dane Piedt.
Shikhar Dhawan (31*) and Cheteshwar Pujara (14*) were the two batsmen occupying the crease.
The Indians brought in paceman Umesh Yadav in place of leg-spinner Amit Mishra in the only change from the side that won last week's Test in Nagpur to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
The rain-hit second Test in Bangalore was drawn after the first day's play.
The Proteas brought in opener Temba Bavuma, paceman Kyle Abbott and Piedt in place of Stiaan van Zyl, Kagiso Rabada and Simon Harmer.
The Kotla wicket is likely to assist fast bowlers early on before breaking up later in the match to aid the spinners.
