India keen to outsmart Proteas in ODI series

Cape Town - India vice-captain Rohit Sharma is not prepared to look too far beyond their six-match One Day International (ODI) series against South Africa.

READ: Injury rules AB out for up to 2 weeks

India have begun preparations for the first one-day at Kingsmead and will be looking to take momentum from their final Test win into the forthcoming ODI series.

The tourists came back in the third Test at the Wanderers to clinch a 63-run victory last week, despite losing the series 2-1.

Sharma says that his side aren't too keen on looking too far ahead and that it was a matter of taking it one game at a time.

"We are keen to win this ODI series. We, as individuals cannot think too far ahead, we have to take one game at a time and see what we can come up with as a team," said Sharma, as quoted by the BCCI website.

"It is important to do a lot of things right, yes there will be times when we will be put under pressure but as a team we have shown that we can absorb that pressure and come back.

"At the same time, we have shown that if we put pressure back on the opposition, they tend to crumble.

"We are going to play that game and try to use it to our advantage. We want to stick to our strengths and take each game at a time," said the Indian batsman.

The first ODI between South Africa and India gets underway in Durban on Thursday at 13:00.
