Cape Town - Mumbai Indians were crowned Indian Premier League (IPL) champions after a tense one-run victory over the Rising Pune Supergiant in Hyderabad on Sunday.
The Proteas departed from India mid-way through the tournament - missing the playoffs - to prepare for the their tour to England and the ICC Champions Trophy.
In this year's IPL, several South Africans stood-out and proved their worth to not only themselves, but to critics alike.
Here's how the Proteas fared during this edition of the IPL:
AB de Villiers
De Villiers sat out of the opening two games for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, but came back with a bang. The Proteas skipper blasted an unbeaten 89 off 46 deliveries, but it was all in vain as his side lost to the Kings XI Punjab.
De Villiers, along with his stalwart team-mates Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli, struggled with the bat throughout their campaign producing innings totals of 49, 96/9 and 119.
De Villiers managed 216 runs from his nine IPL appearances.
Tabraiz Shamsi
Unfortunately, Shamsi was the only international Bangalore player and South African participating that did not feature in this year's edition.
The Proteas spinner could've been vital to the weak Bangalore bowling attack, as his side finished at the bottom of the log and only registered three wins.
Faf du Plessis
The Proteas T20 and Test skipper only featured in two games for the Supergiant and contributed a mere eight runs.
Du Plessis reportedly picked up a slight niggle in his right shoulder, which has subsequently prevented him from participating in the Proteas warm-up games in England.
Imran Tahir
The No 1-ranked ODI and T20 bowler, Tahir was originally snubbed at the auction, but received an SOS call from the Supergiant when Australian all-rounder, Mitchell Marsh, was ruled out with injury.
Tahir proved his worth by bamboozling batsmen with his leg-spin and jubilant celebrations.
Tahir took 18 wickets in his 12 games and despite not playing in the latter part of the tournament, finished fifth for the purple cap (most wickets).
David Miller
Kings XI Punjab spectators didn't get to experience the full extent of 'Miller Time' this year.
The explosive Proteas middle-order batsman featured in five games, which saw him make 83 runs.
Hashim Amla
It's fair to say that Amla was the star batsman for this year's IPL edition, even though he did not grace the orange cap (most runs) - he did leave an impression.
Amla became the third IPL batsman (joining Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli) to ever score more than two centuries in a season.
In a weird twist of fate, both centuries by the Proteas opener were 104 off 60 balls made against the Mumbai Indians and the Gujarat Lions.
Amla blasted 420 runs in his 10 games at an average of 60.00 and despite not playing in the playoffs for his side - he finished sixth for the leading run-scorers.
Chris Morris
Morris, who had a stellar campaign for the Delhi Daredevils last year, was the second-best bowler for his side, who finished third last on the log.
Morris took 12 scalps in his nine appearances and scored 154 runs with the bat.
Kagiso Rabada
Rabada was the lone South African bought this year and the 21-year-old had a lot to prove as he fetched close to R10m and became the third most expensive foreign player for 2017.
Regardless of the price tag, Rabada's time with Daredevils started late as he played his first game almost three weeks into the tournament.
Rabada then went onto play in six games and took six wickets at an average of 31.33 including a best of 2/20 against Mumbai.
