History not on Proteas' side in Adelaide

Cape Town - The Proteas take on Australia in the third and final Test of the series in Adelaide on Thursday in their first ever appearance in a day/night Test.

South Africa are 2-0 up in the series and will be looking to secure a whitewash over their southern hemisphere rivals.

Of course, history at the venue might not count for a whole lot given that this Test will be played with a pink ball and under lights, but it is still interesting to see South Africa's struggles at the ground over the years.

The Proteas have met the Aussies in just 4 Test matches at the venue post-isolation and they have won 0 of those. There have been 2 draws and 2 Australia wins.

Pre-isolation, South Africa played in 4 Tests at the Adelaide Oval between 1911 and 1964, winning 2, losing 1 and drawing 1.

The last time the sides met at the venue was back in 2012. Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis was on debut in that match and he batted for over 7-and-a-half hours in the second innings to help rescue a draw.
