Gibbs recalls '438-game'

Cape Town - March 12, 2016, marks the 10-year anniversary of the '438-game' when the Proteas scored 438 in a monumental run-chase to defeat Australia at the Wanderers.

The match broke many cricket records, including both the first and the second team innings score of over 400 runs.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 434 for 4 off their 50 overs, breaking the previous record of 398–5 by Sri Lanka against Kenya in 1996.

In reply, South Africa scored 438 for 9, winning by one wicket with one ball to spare to take the series 3-2.

Many pundits acclaimed the match as the greatest ODI ever played.

Herschelle Gibbs was South Africa’s hero, scoring 175 off just 111 balls.

Sport24 reminded Gibbs about the anniversary of the game on Saturday and when probed about the matter, he admitted it may have been his finest hour in cricket.
