Bavuma ready for more

Cape Town - When Temba Bavuma scored his maiden hundred at Newlands against England last month, he was simply delivering on a prediction that he’d star for the Proteas - his own.

Bavuma talks through the note he wrote as a young boy that in 15 years time he saw himself playing for South Africa, on The Dan Nicholl Show on SuperSport 1 at 19:00 on Wednesday.

“I see myself in 15 years in my suit shaking Mr. Mbeki’s hand, congratulating me for making the South Africa side,” a young Bavuma wrote, and while he got the president wrong, he was spot on with the cricket achievement.

“I think the dream, deep down, was always there,” Bavuma explains of a note he’d forgotten writing.

“Cricket’s always been a passion, so getting that opportunity to do something I enjoyed, I always looked forward to.”

Bavuma also reveals his part-time hobby as a DJ, and gives his thoughts on the possible new star of cricket commentary: comedian Nik Rabinowitz, who delivers an impromptu spell of Xhosa commentary on Bavuma’s hundred that’s not to be missed.

The show’s third guest is former Springbok captain Bob Skinstad, who looks back on his own career highlights, looks forward to this weekend’s Cape Town 10s tournament, and celebrates the joys of fishing in the Seychelles.

There’s also a cameo appearance from Laureus Academy member and acclaimed adventurer Mike Horn, who takes host Dan Nicholl on an off-piste skiing adventure in Switzerland.
