AB backs 'under pressure' Domingo

Cape Town - Proteas coach Russell Domingo is under renewed pressure following South Africa's elimination from the ongoing Tri-Nation series in the West Indies.

The Proteas collapsed to 185 all out against the hosts on Saturday morning to lose by 100 runs and surrender their place in Sunday's tournament final.

The West Indies and Australia will contest that match.

De Villiers, at his post-match press conference, was quick to defend Domingo and the rest of the Proteas coaching staff.

He said that the preparation for the series had been perfect and that Domingo had put the side through its paces 'like never before'.

"He's played a big role in all of our careers over the last four years," De Villiers said of the coach.

"I feel that he's done a fantastic job ... it's sad to see him under pressure.

"It's definitely not the coaching staff. There is no doubt in my mind that they are the best in the world with what they do and what they bring to the table."

De Villiers said it was the players who needed to accept responsibility for the poor performances in the West Indies.

"Unfortunately as players we let them down in this series," he said.

"We had ample opportunity in a few games to really knuckle it down.

"It comes down to the players; the preparation was perfect.

"All the coaching staff did their jobs so it is sad to see Russell under pressure. It shouldn't be that way. There are a few players who should be under pressure."
