Online voting has opened on the CSA website and will run until the end of May. All 20 nationally contracted players will battle it out for this award.

Two lucky fans who participate in the search for the CSA Fans Cricketers of the Year will be chosen via random draw to enjoy a VIP experience at CSA’s most memorable night of the year. Both winners will also be given the honour of presenting this special award to the lucky Proteas recipient.

The 2010 Fans Cricketer of the Year, Hashim Amla, said: “Fans play a vital role in cricket and the support that we receive from the South African fans is one of the best out there. I didn’t expect to win this award last year and the recognition from the fans really meant a lot to me.”

The 2011 SA Cricket Awards Gala Dinner is the culmination of CSA Day, a day set aside annually by CSA, to celebrate the achievements of the South African cricket family, both on and off the field during the past season.

CSA Day starts with the SA Cricket Awards breakfast, in association with KFC, which is held to celebrate the stars of tomorrow, followed by the CSA Golf Invitational, which gives key stakeholders an opportunity to have a round of golf with the Proteas.

In the evening, the entire Proteas team joins the CSA family for the 2011 SA Cricket Awards Dinner.

CSA CEO Gerald Majola said: “This is the third year that we are celebrating CSA Day and it is fantastic to see how the significance of this day has grown since 2009.

“The Proteas’ fans play a crucial role in the support of the team and we are grateful for their commitment to the team. With over 21 000 followers on Twitter and nearly 115 000 fans on Facebook, CSA is looks forward to an enthusiastic response to the CSA Fans Cricketer of the Year Award.”

CSA will announce the two winners of the CSA Fans’ Cricketer of the Year competition on 1 June 2011.

The CSA judging panel is concluding deliberations over nominees for player and administrator awards. The list of nominees will be announced shortly.

Fans can get all the behind the scenes action as preparations kick into gear for CSA Day on Facebook and Twitter.
