Van Wyk takes swipe at Proteas selectors

Cape Town - Dolphins wicketkeeper-batsman Morne van Wyk has hit out at the country’s cricket selectors after he was excluded from the Proteas’ T20 squad for their tour to Bangladesh in July.

Van Wyk, 36, scored 114 not out off 70 balls in South Africa’s last T20 match against West Indies in January this year, only to be dropped for the tour to Bangladesh.

“It’s only logical. Any team will retain someone who’s done that,” Van Wyk told Netwerk24.

“I have in the meantime also been named as T20 Player of the Year by a formidable panel, but the selectors don’t see it that way. There is no logic behind it.”

Van Wyk also mentioned that his leadership qualities may be intimidating to some of the senior players in the South African squad, which could be a reason for his omission.

Van Wyk has played six T20 internationals for South Africa, scoring 203 runs at an average of 50.77 and a strike rate of 154.96.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...
