Proteas retain Abbott, Shezi

Bulawayo - Kyle Abbott and Mthokozisi Shezi have both been retained in the Proteas squad for the triangular ODI series against Zimbabwe and Australia to be played in Harare next week.

They take the places of Vernon Philander (hamstring) and Beuran Hendricks (back), who have both been ruled out through injury.

Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel rejoin the squad after being rested during the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.

"Kyle impressed in the three matches he played against Zimbabwe, while Mthokozisi, who also did well on his debut today (Thursday), is a like-for-like replacement for Beuran," said CSA selection convenor Andrew Hudson.

"It was also pleasing to see Marchant de Lange resume his international career so well after a lengthy injury break and he underlines the tremendous depth we have (in) our fast bowling resources at the moment."

The triangular series starts on Monday, when Australia take on Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club.

The Proteas play their opening match against Australia on Wednesday.

Proteas squad:
AB de Villiers (captain), Hashim Amla (vice-captain), Kyle Abbott, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir, Ryan McLaren, David Miller, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Aaron Phangiso, Rilee Rossouw, Mthokozisi Shezi, Dale Steyn.
