Proteas call up McLaren

Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Wednesday named Knights all-rounder Ryan McLaren as a replacement for Albie Morkel in the Proteas’ squad for the two-match T20 International series against Australia.

The Titans all-rounder suffered a slight tear to his abdominal muscle while playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the Champions League T20 in India and is expected to be sidelined for between four and six weeks.

“Although it is a blow to lose Albie Morkel, Ryan McLaren has always done well for us in this format. He is one of the few bowlers to take five wickets in a T20 International. In addition he comes into the series in good form, having made a big century for the Knights at the weekend,” commented CSA selection convener Andrew Hudson.

There is better news concerning Mark Boucher, who suffered a hamstring strain at the Champions League and missed the Chevrolet Warriors’ final group match. He is expected to recover within eight to 10 days. The first ODI against Australia is still two weeks away and he should have adequate recovery time.

Another ODI squad member, Imran Tahir, has a mild groin strain and has been withdrawn from the Dolphins' squad for this weekend’s SuperSport Series match as a precautionary measure. His availability for the ODI series is not in doubt.

There are two SuperSport Series matches starting on Thursday. The Dolphins are at home to the Titans at the Maritzburg Oval in Pietermaritzburg,l while the log-topping Knights play the Highveld Lions at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley.

Paul Harris has recovered from his recent surgery and is included in the Titans’ squad.
