Proteas, Boks braai: 5 things we learnt

Cape Town - It's not often that South African sporting heroes from different codes get to hang out, but when they do, it's obviously around a braai!

The Springboks hosted the Proteas for a relaxed evening in Durban where both teams caught up and enjoyed each others company.

Here's five things we learnt from the night*:

1. Schalk Burger (really) knows his cricket

The burly loose forward revealed that he is a massive cricket fan and said the occasion was the ideal evening for him despite the fact that he believes he bores the Proteas with his cricket knowledge. Proteas ODI captain AB de Villiers confirmed that "Schalla" knows his stuff and also revealed that the Bok flanker was a "really good cricketer in his day"...

2. Kagiso Rabada is a former rugby player

The Proteas face bowling sensation let slip that he was a rugby player before turning his attention to cricket. Anyone else wondering what position he played?

3. AB de Villiers actually gets nervous

What a relief! The man who recently broke the record for being the fastest to 8000 ODI runs admitted that he only got half his words out after being a bit star struck.

"I've never been that nervous in my life before" said AB, proving that he is human after all!

4. The Proteas eat more than the Boks

Jannie du Plessis didn't get any dinner because the cricketers had cleaned out the buffet before he could get stuck in...

5. Dale Steyn could be the next Bok fetcher

That's according to Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth. Etzebeth shared how Dale Steyn (somewhat bravely) nipped in to steal the last chop from right in front of him, leaving Etzebeth slightly bemused. Move over Francois Louw, Dale Steyn has his eyes on the number 6 Bok jersey!

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
