Petersen recovery on track

Alviro Petersen (Gallo)
Cape Town - Cricket South Africa's (CSA) medical team are confident that Alviro Petersen will make a complete recovery from his hand injury in time to play a full part in the Proteas' Test tour of Australia.

The first of three Tests starts on November 9 when the Proteas play their first Test match at Brisbane’s famous ground, ‘The Gabba’, since re-admission.

“Alviro Petersen injured his left hand when diving in the slips during a Sunfoil Series game on Thursday, September 20, 2012,” commented Dr Shuaib Manjra, chairperson of CSA’s medical committee. “X-rays and an MRI scan revealed an undisplaced fracture of his fifth metacarpal.

“Alviro has been fitted with a custom-made splint to immobilize the fracture area. He will be treated conservatively with measures aimed to accelerate healing.

“He will be reviewed in four weeks’ times to determine his progress.

“We are confident that he will be ready for the Australia series,” Manjra concluded.
