Greetings - Hello and welcome to our over-by-over coverage of the first test between South Africa and West Indies from Centurion on Pretoria. South Africa have not had a home series in a long time and they will be eager to do well in front of their home crowds.
Rain: Rain - The early news from the ground is not good. It has been raining in Centurion and is still raining, so the start of the test will be delayed. Weather report says that it will be an overcast day and the rain is like to play hide-and-seek throughout.
9:50 am - The rain has stopped and the covers are coming off.
10:00 am - The toss should have happened by now, but it is delayed due to the wet outfield. The pitch looks brown instead of green, and the teams are doing some warm up drills.
Toss delayed - Toss has been delayed by 30 mins and play will only start 30 mins after that at 11 am local time. Stiaan van Zyl has been handed his Test cap by the man who he will be replacing, Duminy is still recovering from a knee injury.
Toss: Toss - West Indies have won the toss and they will bowl first.
Team news - South Africa have gone for all out pace, no space for Robin Peterson. South Africa go with Elgar, Petersen, Du Plessis, Amla, De Villiers, Van Zyl, De Kock, Philander, Steyn, Morkel, Abbott. West Indies playing eleven will be Smith, Brathwaite, Johnson, Samuels, Chanderpaul, Blackwood, Ramdin, Roach, Taylor, Benn, Cottrell
Jerome Taylor is set to bowl for the West Indies, three slips in place. The South African openers, Petersen and Elgar come out to bat. Four, Petersen flicks the first ball, which is slipping down leg, for four through fine leg, easy runs to start. Four more, wrong line from Taylor and Petersen flicks the ball past short leg for four. A single and then two dots to end the over.
Cottrell comes on to bowl from the other end. Four dots and then Petersen outside edges the ball through gully for four, not convincing in that shot. Just the boundary from the over.
Taylor continues, he will be looking to do better than he did in his first over. Elgar hits the ball through mid-off and gets off the mark with a single. A couple of dots and then Petersen chops the ball through gully again for four more, a better shot this time. Five from the over.
Four dots and then Elgar pulls the short ball through midwicket for four runs, his first boundary of the innings. Elgar pushes the last ball for a couple of runs to make it 6 runs from the Cottrell over.

50: Kemar Roach comes into the attack, first change from West Indies. Four, Petersen outside edges the first ball, it goes through gully for four, the edge drops short of a fielder. Nice lines from Cottrell, he is bowling well with Roach. Amla inside edges the ball to fine leg for a single. Four dots and a single to end the over, both batsmen off the mark now.
Three dots and then AB punches the ball through the covers for a couple of runs. Four, AB drives the ball down the ground through mid-on for four, good timing on that shot.
Three dots and then Amla clips the ball down to fine leg for a single. A couple of singles from the over, SA 67 for 3.
Five dots from Roach and then AB punches the ball down the ground for a couple of runs. South Africa 69 for 3, Roach has bowled really well today.

Taylor comes back into the attack, he needs to be more consistent than he was in his first spell. Amla crashes the ball through the point region for four, short and wide from Taylor, poor bowling. Benn comes into the attack, first signs of spin from West Indies. Four dots and then Amla takes a single to fine leg. Just one from the over, 15 minutes to go to lunch.
Amla shuffles and clips the ball to deep square leg for a couple of runs. Four, Amla hits Taylor through cover for four, poor bowling from Taylor. A couple of dots and then Amla pushes the ball through the off side again for a couple of runs.
Benn continues, AB pushes the ball through mid-off for a single. Amla changes his bat, three byes down the leg side and South Africa go to 94 for 3.

100: A single as Benn continues, AB rocks back and hits the ball through cover point for four runs, good use of the feet there. A couple of dots to end the over, it is lunch on day one and South Africa are 102 for 3.
Lunch: Lunch Day 1 - It is lunch on day one and West Indies have pulled South Africa back after a quick start from Elgar and Petersen. Roach picked up two wickets and Cottrell got one, in three consecutive overs putting pressure on the South African batting order. Amla and De Villiers have steadied the ship very well and have added 45 runs taking SA to 102 for 3 at lunch.

Four, Taylor comes on to bowl and bowls the first one short and wide, Amla cuts the ball powerfully through point for four. Poor start from Taylor again. A slip goes to cover after that shot. Amla leans into the drive and hits the ball through deep extra cover for a couple of runs. Three dots to end the over, 6 runs from it. Amla on 49.
After drinks, Benn changes ends and AB pushes the first ball on the off side for no run. Six, AB comes down the wicket and hits the ball all the way into the sight screen for a six. Amla steers the first ball from Taylor through point for a single, he gets to his 50. Important knocks from both these players after the loss of three quick wickets. Welcome to Day 3 - We saw 91 overs on day 1 despite the early morning rain, but on day 2 we lost 40 of the 90 overs that needed to be bowled. The West Indies would have felt relieved when the rain came as they got a well deserved break, after spending a 140 overs in the field. Once again the first hour of this first session will be important, as one would expect Steyn and company to put more pressure on the batsman, than what the West Indies bowlers did. The South African bowlers recent history means that they would expect success in the opening session today.
Dale Steyn starts proceedings on day 3 to Kraigg Brathwaite. A perfect start as he gets the first ball to shape a bit, as he makes the batsman play. Brathwaite gets off strike with a single to cover. Devon Smith takes on the shorter ball and is lucky to survive as he hits it on the toe of his bat and lands between the fielders in the covers.
