Dhaka - Playing conditions at the World Twenty20 competition in Bangladesh are a challenge, but South Africa have the ability and stability to handle them, captain Faf du Plessis told a news conferenc on Sunday.
"It is challenging, you know, for the teams like South Africa, Australia and England whose conditions are a little bit different. But in saying that, we've got a lot of players in our team who has played a lot of IPL (Indian Premier League) cricket and who has had quite a few tours in India, Sri Lanka and even Bangladesh.
"So we've definitely played enough in these conditions to understand what to expect," said the 29-year-old middle order batsman and and occasional leg spinner.
Du Plessis said spin would play a big part in the competition, but not the only part.
"I think we are covered. When I look at the statistics, when it comes to Bangladesh it's not always just spin. Conditions also allow for fast bowlers to do well and we've got a really good bowling attack when it comes to the fast bowlers," said the Proteas skipper.
Du Plessis said his squad have the ability to do well in Bangladesh.
"I think we've proven that we can do it. We can play in these conditions against quality spin."
The South Africa captain said stability was most important.
"We've had a stable batting line-up for the last year. So, you know there's no tricks to that. For me, stability is the most important thing and I think that's one of the reasons we were successful in the subcontinent. As a batsman you need to understand your role and play in a situation as many times as possible."
The World Twenty20 began on Sunday with hosts Bangladesh beating Afghanistan and will finish on April 6.
South Africa play warm-up matches against Bangladesh A on Tuesday and Pakistan on Wednesday, then start the tournament proper on Saturday against Sri Lanka in Chittagong.
