Colombo - AB de Villiers won the toss and elected to bowl in the first ODI against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday. Hashim Amla is out injured with severe stiffness and spasm in the neck, however Morne Morkel has recovered from the tightness in his left quad muscle he sustained earlier in the week.

Proteas team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee said: “ Hashim woke up with an acute wry neck on Friday morning, presenting with pain, stiffness and spasm in that region. He was treated overnight but has not responded sufficiently to treatment.”

The Proteas have strategically opted for a strong spin contingent with two frontline spinners in Robin Peterson and Aaron Phangiso, along with JP Duminy as the third option.
