Abbott, 26, took 7-29, and had match figures of 9-68, in his only Test to date against Pakistan last year.

Abbott said it's been an ambition of his to play county cricket and has heard great things about Hampshire after being recommended to the club by fellow South African, Neil McKenzie.

Abbott has also appeared in two one-day internationals and a Twenty20 match for South Africa, and taken 165 wickets in first-class cricket at an average of 21.92.

Abbott represents the Dolphins in SA domestic cricket.
