Johannesburg – The Proteas will start their third onslaught on the world Twenty20 crown with a training game against Sri Lanka in less than two weeks’ time.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday announced all the training games for the World Twenty20 tournament that starts in the West Indies at the end of this month.
Graeme Smith and Co warm-up against Sri Lanka on 28 April and England in Barbados the following day.
In their two previous attempts, South Africa have not been able to progress beyond the semi-finals.
Smith’s team will be up against India (2 May) and newcomers Afghanistan (5 May) in Group C of the tournament.
South Africa lost to eventual champions Pakistan in the semi-finals in England last year. In 2007 the Proteas were unable to reach the second round on their own soil.
The South African women’s team’s preparation for their tournament, which runs concurrently with the men’s tournament, starts on 2 and 3 May with training games against Sri Lanka and India.
