Search on for Proteas coach

Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa on Thursday launched the process to appoint the next head coach of the Proteas.

The successful candidate will replace interim coach Corrie van Zyl who will return to his permanent post as head coach at CSA's High Performance Centre at the end of the ICC Cricket World Cup.

The appointment will be for a two-year period during a busy time for the Proteas and will include the 2012 edition of the ICC World Twenty20 to be held in Sri Lanka, the inaugural World Test Championship as well as home and away series against Australia and a full tour to England.

Gerald Majola, CSA CEO, commented: "CSA is casting its net far and wide to find the right person to replace caretaker Proteas' coach Corrie van Zyl and take the team to even higher levels of performance.

"We thank and applaud Corrie for stepping into the breach at such short notice after the resignation by Mickey Arthur as national coach last season.

"Corrie will be returning to his full-time post as CSA's High Performance manager after next year's ICC World Cup starting in February. His ability to bring out the best in top and emerging cricketers is well known and we look forward to him continuing in this role.

"CSA has already put in new management structures around the Proteas, including the appointment of a new selection panel under former Proteas' opening batsman Andrew Hudson.

"CSA is also going to appoint a new facet to the management structure based on introducing the best scientific and research available to keep the Proteas ahead of international cricket challenges.

"CSA has appointed the panel to select the new national coach. The panel will be headed by myself as CSA CEO and will comprise Corrie van Zyl (High Performance manager), Andrew Hudson (selection convener), Andrew O'Connor (chair cricket committee)and Boeta Dippenaar (SA Cricketers' Association representative).

The appointment process will be overseen by Bilala Khanye (CSA's human relations consultant).

"The search for candidates for this vital job is world-wide and the criteria set for the successful applicant is of the highest world standards.

"CSA believes the Proteas have the right balance and skills to be the best in the world and now we are looking for the right coach and surrounding management structures to take them to that level and keep them there".

Applications close on Friday, January 7, 2011 and the interview process will follow shortly thereafter.
