Bloemfontein - The Dolphins beat the Knights by six runs after rain stopped play in their Standard Bank Pro20 match at the Outsurance Oval in Bloemfontein on Wednesday night.
The Knights were well placed, chasing a target of 172 to win, but the rain came down after 15 overs and the target was revised according to the Duckworth Lewis method.
Dean Elgar was unbeaten on 48, but having just lost their third wicket, the Knights needed to have scored 124 runs to win at that point, and were caught short at 117.
Sent in to bat, the Dolphins seemed intent on scoring close to 200 at one stage, but a series of bizarre incidents restricted them to 171 for six.
Loots Bosman was hit on the head, which interrupted his flurry of runs, and Ryan McLaren was denied a milestone when a catch was put down off his hat-trick ball.
Bosman had struggled at the start of his innings, but when he found the middle of the bat he played superbly.
He was involved in an unfortunate incident with David Miller which left him visibly shaken and Miller back in the pavilion.
Miller, who made 26, smashed a ball down the wicket which hit Bosman on the helmet as he tried to take evasive action. The ball bounced off the helmet and flew towards cover where McLaren took a diving catch.
Bosman needed several minutes to recover as he applied ice to his head, and then called for another helmet. He soldiered on to score 57 off 41 balls, including three fours and four sixes, but only one of his boundaries came after he suffered the blow.
His dismissal was the second ball of a potential hat-trick by McLaren. After Vaughn van Jaarsveld was caught on the boundary, the batsmen had crossed which left Bosman facing the next delivery. He played and missed and lost his middle stump.
Cameron Delport then tried to clear the mid-wicket fence with the hat-trick ball, but instead found Victor Mpitseng who somehow put down the catch to deny McLaren the rare achievement.
Bosman was unable to field during the Knights' innings, but he was rewarded with the Master Blaster Batsman award.
Knights seamer Johann van der Wath earned the Master Blaster Bowler prize for his 2/22, while McLaren bowled well for his 3/34.
