The 28-year-old Arafat is a hard-hitting lower-order batsman who has a strike-rate of 126.86 in Twenty20 cricket while he has also captured 106 wickets in 86 matches in the truncated form of the game.
Arafat, who has played in three Test matches, 11 one-day internationals and seven T20 internationals for his country, recently signed with English county Surrey, after spells at Kent and Sussex.
He is set to make his Dolphins’ debut in the Pro20 clash against the Warriors in East London on Friday.
Arafat last turned out for Pakistan, in a T20 international, against England in Dubai in February last year.
The right-hander will strengthen a Dolphins’ bowling attack that lacks experience and depth as evidenced by the men from Durban having to make use of five part-time bowlers during their six-run Duckworth/Lewis victory over the Chevrolet Knights in their opening Pro20 fixture.
“He has been brought in to bring some experience to our bowling attack and also to provide an option in the death overs which has been a challenge for us,” Dolphins chief executive Jesse Chellan told SuperCricket.
“He played for Graham Ford (Dolphins coach) at Kent and we signed him on Graham’s recommendation,” Chellan added.
Arafat is the third overseas pro to turn out for the Dolphins this season after England internationals Kevin Pietersen and Ravi Bopara.
