Cape Town - The Standard Bank Pro20 completed a memorable opening weekend of the 2010/11 edition, with all three matches played being decided off the last ball of the match.
The opening fixture between the Cape Cobras and the Titans got the competition off to a cracking start at Newlands on Friday evening when the home side needed nine runs off the last two balls.
Captain Justin Kemp proved the man for the occasion, hitting a six and a four off successive deliveries to get his men across the line.
At the Wanderers Stadium on Sunday afternoon, Robbie Frylinck – who has done this sort of thing before to earn an IPL contract with the Delhi Daredevils – was the man of the moment, and this time Kemp was on the receiving end.
Frylinck hit 6, 6, 4 off the last three balls of the last over from Rory Kleinveldt to get the Highveld Lions home to a four-wicket victory.
The Lions had gone into the last over needing 19 runs to win and they were helped by a wide delivery that cost two runs before Frylinck provided his memorable onslaught.
And in East London, Mark Boucher blasted 60 not out off 33 balls, with 5 fours and 2 sixes, to get the Warriors home off the last ball of their match against the Titans.
He was well supported by Lyall Meyer (36 off 28 balls with 4 fours and a six), the pair adding 76 for the 7th wicket in eight overs after six wickets had fallen for 63 runs.
It has been a tough weekend for the Titans who batted first in both of their matches after winning the toss on both occasions.
The Warriors, who are the defending champions, the Lions and the Cobras are all joint top of the log with one win each, although the Cobras have played an extra match.
The Knights and the Nashua Dolphins play their opening fixture against each other at the OUTsurance Oval on Wednesday evening.
