Brisbane - Australia beat the West Indies by 50 runs in their fourth one-day international at The 'Gabba, Brisbane, on Sunday, and thereby taking an unassailable 3-0 lead with one game to go.
West Indies started the chase quite well, but lost three quick wickets before Narsingh Deonarine and Wavell Hinds stabilised the innings with a 45-run stand.
Following Hinds' demise to a communication breakdown - he set off for a single that was never there - Deonarine reached his maiden ODI half-century, but almost immediately he lost the plot, lofting Nathan Hauritz down long-off's throat for 53.
Kieron Pollard played a champagne innings - 62 off 55 balls - but the visitors were always behind the eight-ball, losing wickets too regularly to maintain the pace.
Doug Bollinger and Ryan Harris bagged two wickets apiece.
Earlier, having been asked to bat, Australia reached 324 for seven,
The hosts were never in trouble, as first, Shane Watson and Tim Paine added 26 and 24 runs respectively, before captain Ricky Ponting was joined by Cameron White for the partnership that defined the innings.
Together, the pair added 131 runs in 25 overs, punishing all the bowlers, and interspersing their attacking strokes with clever running between the wickets to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
With the fall of White's wicket for 63, the hosts found themselves in a great position on 226 for three with still 10 overs to go.
Ponting reached his 29th ODI century and - having just taken the powerplay - looked set to launch into the visitors' attack.
However, he soon found himself trundling back to the dressingroom for a 112-ball 106, trying to paddle Dwayne Smith to fine-leg, but finding Ravi Rampaul at short fine-leg instead.
James Hopes gave the innings a late boost with a savage 42 off only 21 deliveries.
The final match in the ODI series will be on Friday, February 19, at the MCG.
