Vernon Philander (Gallo)

Cape Town - The Board of Directors of Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Saturday decided to award Vernon Philander a national contract for the balance of the season.

“Vernon has been an outstanding asset for the Proteas’ Castle Lager squad this summer and his successes have been well documented,” commented CSA CEO Gerald Majola.

“The awarding of a contract is well deserved and also gives the team management the tools to manage his workload correctly as the Proteas embark on a very busy international year that includes away tours to New Zealand, England and Australia as well as the ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka.”

Mr. Majola also announced that the Proteas would play a series of five T20s against Zimbabwe in June in Zimbabwe before they tour England as part of the build-up to the World Twenty20. It will mean the Proteas will have 11 T20 matches before they go to the ICC event.

The Board accepted a recommendation from Mr. Majola to have a workshop to review the structure of the domestic professional competitions.

The Board appointed Independent Board member Dr. Oupa Nkagisang as acting chairman of the Remunerations Committee until the AGM in August.

The Board also adopted the Policies and Procedures Manual which had previously been approved by the Audit and Risk Committee.

Professor Johan Erasmus will be taking the Board members and all other senior stakeholders and staff of CSA through a Companies’ Act workshop this afternoon.
