Johannesburg - A resolution passed by the Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB) last week saw the removal of Daniel Phetla as board member of the GCB with immediate effect, GCB corporate communications manager Andra Nel said on Tuesday.
"After due consideration of the matter and all information available to the board, the board determined that Daniel Phetla has neglected, or been derelict in performance of, the functions of a director," Nel said in a statement.
"Mr Phetla is hereby removed as a director of the GCB."
Alexandra Cricket Club, of which Phetla is chairperson, was involved in an ongoing dispute with the GCB after fixtures for the club were suspended following concerns for the safety of its cricketers.
The arbitrator appointed to resolve the dispute, had lifted the suspension while the process was underway.
After interviewing approximately 30 players and ex-players in an effort to get a grasp of the situation, the arbitrator recommended the club's AGM be held as soon as possible so members could decide who should manage the club for the next term. He also recommended both the GCB and the Johannesburg Sports Council should be invited to the AGM, subject to an undertaking of no interference, to avoid ongoing disputes and unhappiness.
