Cook to lead SA Invitation XI

Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Wednesday named Stephen Cook of the bizhub Highveld Lions to lead the South African Invitation XI in their 50 overs day/night tour match against Pakistan at the Diamond Oval on Wednesday, 6 March 2013.

“We were largely limited to selected players from the bizhub Highveld Lions and the Sunfoil Dolphins for this match because the other four franchises will all be in action in the RAM SLAM T20 Challenge on that date,” commented coach Vinnie Barnes.

“Once again this match provides opportunities for players to show what they can do at a higher level and also to enjoy the special experience of playing against an international team. We have seen a number of players taking advantage of matches both for South Africa A and the Invitation sides to earn places in the Proteas’ set-up.

“You don’t have to look further than Kyle Abbott for a good example of this. It is really heartening to see the excited feedback I get from players when they are offered this opportunity.”

SA Invitation XI: Stephen Cook (bizhub Highveld Lions, captain), Craig Alexander (Sunfoil Dolphins), Temba Bavuma (bizhub Highveld Lions), Cody Chetty (Sunfoil Dolphins), Quinton de Kock (bizhub Highveld Lions), Imran Tahir (bizhub Highveld Lions), Chris Morris (bizhub Highveld Lions), Jean Symes (bizhub Highveld Lions), Jonathan Vandiar (Sunfoil Dolphins), Vaughn van Jaarsveld (Sunfoil Dolphins), Hardus Viljoen (bizhub Highveld Lions), Lizaad Williams (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras).

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
