Oz declare amidst scuffles

Perth - The West Indies were 69 without loss at tea on the second day of the third Test against Australia at the WACA, Perth, on Wednesday, trailing the hosts by 451 runs.

At the break Chris Gayle was on a 34-ball 52, and Travis Dowlin on a more sedate 15.

Earlier, Australia declared their first innings on 520 for seven after lunch.

Yet another Australian batsman failed to convert a fifty into a test ton, as Brad Haddin fell 12 runs short when he gifted Denesh Ramdin his third catch of the innings.

The afternoon was slightly spiced up, however, when Sulieman Benn and Mitchell Johnson had a gentle push-of-arms in the middle as the latter tried to complete a single.

Haddin joined in the fun, animatedly talking to Benn, Chris Gayle got involved and umpire Billy Bowden had to step in to stop the party.

Starting the day on 339/3, Michael Hussey could only add one run to his overnight score of 81 before he nibbled at a Ravi Rampaul delivery to be caught behind the stumps.

Marcus North and Haddin combined for a 89-run fifth-wicket partnership, but it ended abruptly when the former hit a knee-high full toss straight back to the bowler - North departing for a well-played 68.
