Titans cruise past Warriors

Benoni - Captain Martin van Jaarsveld scored an unbeaten 109 to lead the Titans to a resounding seven-wicket victory over the Warriors in their One Day Cup match at Willowmoore Park, in Benoni, on Sunday.

Van Jaarsveld's century came at more than a run a ball, as he smashed 16 fours and a six, and he was ably assisted by opener Heino Kuhn, who made 86. They shared a third-wicket partnership of 142.

The Titans achieved the winning target of 242 with 52 balls to spare.

Andrew Birch was the most successful of the Warriors bowlers, taking two for 44 to dismiss Henry Davids for 30 and Mangaliso Mosehle for one.

The only other bowler to take a wicket was Basheer Walters, who had Kuhn caught behind by Jacobs.

Earlier, spinner Roelof van der Merwe and seamer Albie Morkel were ruthless with the ball as they shared the first six wickets to contain the Warriors line-up after the visitors won the toss and chose to bat.

Van der Merwe took four for 50 and Morkel returned three for 36, restricting the Warriors to 241 for nine in their 50 overs.

Former Proteas opener Ashwell Prince and Warriors captain Davy Jacobs played anchor roles for the visitors, who struggled to build partnerships.

Prince made 41 runs to hold the top order together before Jacobs contributed 51 at faster then a run a ball to carry the middle.
