Van Biljon to lead SA XI

Cape Town - Pite van Biljon of the Free State will captain the South African Invitation XI to play the touring New Zealand Black Caps in a three-day practice match at Boland Park, Paarl, from Friday until Sunday.

The match will not have first-class status as both teams will have a squad of 12 players although only 11 can be in the field at any stage.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) could not consider the majority of franchise players because of the current round of Sunfoil Series matches and the same applies to Border and South Western Districts who are involved in a CSA provincial competition match.

SA Invitation XI:

Pite van Biljon (Free State, captain), Colin Ackermann (EP), Bradley Barnes (WP), Uwe Birkenstock (Boland), Petrus Jeftha (Boland), Matthew Kleinveldt (WP), Shaun Liebisch (Easterns), Travis Muller (WP), Keegan Petersen (Boland), Siya Simetu (WP), Rassie van der Dussen (North West), Gino Vries (Free State).

Management:

Coach: Salieg Nackerdien (Cape Cobras), Assistant Coach: Gerhard Maree (Highveld Strikers), Video Analyst: Hendrikus Coertzen (CSA), Physiotherapist: Faan Fourie (Boland)

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
