London - A pink cricket ball has been used under lights for the first time in a four-day game, with players saying it was not overly difficult to see but some viewers outside the field finding it difficult to spot from a distance.
The ball is being tested in the Marylebone Cricket Club's game against Durham as part of a bid to eventually play the five-day Test format under lights and arrest its declining popularity.
The game started on Monday at 14:30 and the ball became a deep reddish hue by the time the lights came on.
Durham finished on 329/3 in 96 overs, with Michael di Venuto making 131 and Kyle Coetzer 123 not out.
Di Venuto says the coloring was fine but there were "more concerns with the seam."
