Cape Town – Neil McKenzie will not continue his cricketing career in the Cape next year.

The former Proteas batsman informed the Cape Cobras on Tuesday that he is not accepting their offer of a contract.

“Neil has business commitments in Johannesburg and will not be able to move to the Cape,” said a disappointed Cobras coach Shukri Conrad.

McKenzie was axed as Lions captain earlier this season and there were rumours that he might be seeking greener pastures elsewhere.

Conrad said it was unlikely that the Cobras would look for another high-profile player and they will rather look within their own ranks.

“If you cannot get a player of that quality, it is better to promote one of your young players.”

The Cobras have already strengthened their squad for next season with Johann Louw and wicketkeeper Dane Vilas.

McKenzie’s decision will leave a gap with Henry Davids already having indicated that he will be playing for the Titans from next season.
