Cape Town - The South Western Districts Cricket Board (SWD) is elated with its provisional Affiliate status. This promotion was granted by the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Board, during the Annual General Meeting held at the weekend.
SWD cricket board President, Rudy Claassen said: “SWD cricket set itself specific objectives and a lot of hard work and dedication was put in over the last few years by passionate individuals to achieve this objective. We are all very proud of this great achievement and will continue to strive in producing quality players and administrators and the development of cricket on grassroots level.
“I also would like to express my thanks and gratitude to my predecessors, executive members and the office staff for their selfless contributions over the past years.”
CSA CEO, Gerald Majola conducted a verification audit as applicable to the application for affiliate membership by the SWD Cricket Board on 15 August 2011.
Majola said: “I was highly impressed by the commitment and enthusiasm shown by all during my visit there. They have put good structures in place and laid the foundation for a successful future.”
During his visit, Majola observed that the staff complement exceeded the minimum requirements of the CSA Presidential Plan on Cricket Development. The operational structures as presented reflected a well oiled machine focused on delivery in an effective and efficient manner.
Much effort has been made to facilitate the mainstreaming of black African cricketers within their sphere of influence. The activities of the platoon of coaches are tracked on a daily basis against a year plan.
The SWD administration developed strong relationships with their local communities and more so with the local municipalities. Evidence of this is reflected in that a new office complex with hosting facilities for dignitaries is now being built on the Oudtshoorn Recreational Grounds, the headquarters of SWD cricket.
The growth of SWD Cricket Board in its infancy as a rural sub-union of Boland in 2003 to its current position of an exemplary associate member embodies the energy, vision of the young leadership that permeates throughout the cricket community and the business community at large.
The CSA board resolved that it recognises the positive endeavors of the SWD Cricket Board that amplifies the vision of CSA of making cricket accessible to all. Due to this, the board agreed to grant SWDCB conditional Affiliate status with the understanding that the SWDCB provides long term undertakings from the local municipalities to grant the lease of utilisation and maintenance of facilities and that the award of this status does not qualify SWDCB to a similar funding structure as the existing Affiliate members.
Any further additional funding would be needs based and upon recommendation of the CSA Board of Directors.
