Majola's special plea dismissed

Johannesburg - The disciplinary hearing of suspended Cricket SA (CSA) chief executive Gerald Majola will go ahead next week, despite a special plea brought by his legal team.

Advocate Karel Tip, the independent chairperson of Majola's hearing, on Friday dismissed the special plea and said the hearing would commence on Tuesday.

Majola was suspended in March after a long-running bonus scandal following the 2009 Indian Premier League T20 tournament which South Africa hosted.

The Nicholson inquiry, instituted after Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula called for an independent probe, found that R4.7m in bonuses had been paid to CSA staff without clearance from the board or the remuneration committee.
