Cape Town - The bizhub Highveld Lions beat the Nashua Dolphins by 4 wickets with 9 balls to spare at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead on Wednesday to make it two wins out of two in the MTN40 competition.
It was an important result for the Lions as both teams are in the same pool.
The Dolphins won the toss and reached 243/7 in their 40 overs thanks largely to a typical innings from Loots Bosman who smashed 69 off 36 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes.
Once he was dismissed the Lions spin bowlers put a stranglehold on proceedings. Imraan Khan was the other main contributor for the Dolphins (69 off 89 balls) but the home side was never able to accelerate their run rate in the last 10 overs which produced only 60 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
The Lions run chase was disrupted twice by the weather and in the end they needed 189 in 30 overs.
Man of the Match Stephen Cook (68 off 73 balls) set up the runs chase and the Lions were always ahead of the require run rate. Robbie Frylinck repeated his big hitting of the previous win to settle the issue with two big sixes for the Lions to win quite comfortably.
