Dolphins win to top log

Cape Town - The Sunfoil Dolphins may have been the victims of three washed out games in a row on home turf but it has not been able to prevent them from becoming joint log leaders in the 1-Day Cup competition.

They finally managed to get in a full game against the Nashua Titans on Friday evening and what a match it turned out to be! Both teams posted more than 300 runs thanks to centuries by Faf du Plessis (120 off 115 balls, 11 fours) and Loots Bosman (112 off 102 balls, 7 fours and 4 sixes). Daryn Smit also played a good supporting hand for the Dolphins (95 off 111 balls, 9 fours).

It was a rough night for the bowlers with only 10 wickets falling in total before the Dolphins got home with five balls to spare.

The other two matches, both of which were decided under the Duckworth/Lewis method, also provided fine adverts for the domestic 50 overs game.

Morne van Wyk (136 off 144 balls, 13 fours and a six) provided the third century of the evening as the Chevrolet Knights beat the bizhub Highveld Lions by 10 runs. Once again the Lions found themselves chasing a big total (318) and in the end they faced a revised target of 269 in 40 overs.

The totals were much lower on a slow pitch at Axxess St. George’s where the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras got home by just three runs against the Chevrolet Warriors. The Warriors posted 201 which was then reduced to a target of 172 in 39.5 overs. Richard Levi gave the Cobras his normal quick-fire start but runs became much harder to score once the experienced spinners, Johan Botha and Nicky Boje, came into the attack.

JP Duminy eventually saw them home (43 not out, 68 balls, 3 fours).

Boje (3/26) and Charl Langeveldt (4/46) returned outstanding bowling performances.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
