Cape Town - It looks as though the whole of Cape Town's cricket establishment is currently trying to find a solution for the poor performances by the Cape Cobras in the MTN40 series.
This regional team have lost their first five matches in the competition.
The Cape Cobras board met informally on Monday night to discuss the team's slump while the cricket and selection committees will meet on Thursday to try and work out a turnaround for the team.
The Cape Town team will take on the Warriors on Thursday night at Newlands in the team's penultimate match of the series.
The match is largely theoretical, seeing as how both teams have already lost the opportunity to qualify for the semi-finals.
The Cobras end their campaign on Sunday against the Lions on the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
It is hard to be believed that almost all of the Cobras players have lost their form at the same time over the past few weeks.
The team last month played excellent cricket in the SuperSport series. They also started the local limited overs series with great confidence.
Now it looks like the Capetonians don't know where their next victory will be coming from – and their prospects in the Pro20 series don't look too good.
Given the way things stand, the Cobras could use the opportunity to give some younger players a chance in the last two matches of the series.
Or they could try to help the team regain some confidence before the extremely important Pro20 series in January.
Omar Henry, convenor of the Cobras' selection committee, said they would have to seriously look at the way forward.
"We will have to think carefully about what we want to achieve with the last few matches."
"There are a few younger players like Yaseen Vallie, Beuren Hendricks and Lenert van Wyk that we could look at, but I would also like to see that the guys regain self-confidence before the Pro20 series."
Henry also said, however, that it might be time for the more experienced guys to look at the performances of the players.
At the end of the last season it was decided to get rid of the former coach, Shukri Conrad, due to the struggling performances of the Cobras in their semi-final matches in the MTN40 as well as the Pro20 series.
"There are unfortunately too many similarities between those matches and this year's weak performances."
"We are quite happy with the new coach (Richard Pybus) but if the same mistakes are made under different coaches, you have to start asking questions about the players," said Henry.
