Bosman 150 destroys Warriors

Maritzburg - Loots Bosman provided a reminder that he can be just as effective at the longer form of limited overs cricket as he is in the shorter format with a blitzkrieg innings of 150 off only 86 balls (12 fours and a six) in the MTN40 cross-pool match at the Maritzburg City Oval on Sunday.

Strangely it was his first century at this level and is probably the reason why he has not been used more regularly by the Proteas in the ODI arena. If that is so, he couldn’t have chosen better timing to set out his World Cup stall.

Bosman had the perfect partner in his in-form captain, Imraan Khan (114 off 111 balls with 14 fours and a six). It was Khan’s second century in the limited overs format.

Their opening partnership of 253 in 30.2 overs was the highest in South African domestic cricket since the launch of the 40 overs format as was the Nashua Dolphins total of 311/6.

Justin Kreusch, one of the most under-rated cricketers on the domestic circuit, responded with his fifth century for the Chevrolet Warriors (an unbeaten 118 off 96 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes) and in the circumstances the visitors did well to deny the Dolphins a bonus point.

The Warriors finished all out on 289 in 39.3 overs to give the Dolphins their second victory of the campaign by 22 runs.

Ravi Bopara (5/63 in 8 overs) took an unlikely fifer for the Dolphins. Kyle Abbott took 4/36 and his dismissal of the dangerous Davy Jacobs – the most likely player to respond in kind to Bosman – in the third over of the innings was a key moment.
