Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) will only announce its new CEO in early July due to an independent company being employed to assess applicants for the position, reports the EWN website.
Among the current shortlist of candidates, former ICC CEO, Haroon Lorgat, is the apparent favourite. Lorgat said he is yet to hear back from CSA regarding the matter.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly unhappy with Lorgat being in line for the job.
He developed a strained relationship with India's board during his four years in charge at the ICC. Lorgat irked the BCCI with his positive stance on the Decision Review Systen (DRS).
According to the ESPNcricinfo website, the BCCI even threatened to pull out of next season's tour to South Africa should Lorgat be appointed.
Dave Emslie, CEO of the Warriors franchise, also applied for the job and insists he's the man for the job.
“Due diligence needs to prevail all the time. I don’t think there’s problem at CSA, you just need a firm man on the pillar," said Emslie.
Other possible candidates are CSA employees Mike Gajjar (current cricket operations manager) and Max Jordaan, (transformation manager), and Border CEO Themba Lupuwana.
Jacques Faul served as interim CEO since March 2012 after former CEO Gerald Majola was suspended and then dismissed due to a bonus scandal.
Faul recently left the job to undertake the role of CEO at the Northerns Cricket Union.
