Lions coach Nosworthy resigns

Johannesburg - Highveld Lions head coach Dave Nosworthy resigned from his post on Monday.

The Lions Cricket Board said in a statement it had accepted his resignation and agreed to his request to sever ties after a one-month notice period, despite Nosworthy having another 11 months on his contract. Over the last four seasons, Nosworthy guided the Lions to two Champions League appearances, with a number of his franchise players representing the national team.

“It is always a sad time when one parts ways with a unit that is on the brink of bigger and better things," Nosworthy said.

"But I feel that the time is right for me to move on after considering various aspects and options.

"There have been a number of personal and principled factors involved in my decision, and these have led me to decide to look for greener pastures."

Lions Cricket chairperson Archie Pretorius said Nosworthy's resignation would lead to a new chapter for the franchise and the board would have to decide on the way forward.

"Although we did not anticipate this early move from Dave, we respect his decision and wish him all the best for what comes next in his career," Pretorius said.

"The board will now deliberate on what the next step will be and this will definitely bring some changes for us."
