Cape Town - South Africa won the toss and decided to bat in the third one-day international at Newlands on Tuesday.
The five-match series is tied at one-all following India's dramatic one-run win in the second match in Johannesburg on Saturday.
South Africa made one change, with batsman and part-time leg-spinner Faf du Plessis making his international debut in place of David Miller.
Although South Africa's World Cup squad is due to be announced on Tuesday, there was still no place for Pakistan-born leg-spinner Imran Tahir, who was selected in the squad for the series but who has yet to play at international level.
Batting first at Newlands has usually been an advantage in day-night games at the ground, with the ball tending to move around more under the floodlights.
India picked the hard-hitting Yusuf Pathan in place of the injured Sachin Tendulkar, although Pathan will bat in the middle order, with Rohit Sharma due to open the batting instead of Tendulkar.
